The Teck Coast Cup #1, held this past Saturday at the Whistler Olympic Park, saw 248 participants take part in a thrilling day of cross-country skiing. The event welcomed athletes of all ages, representing various skill levels and experiences.
Under sunny skies and temperatures of -2°C, competitors enjoyed excellent conditions on the fast, well-maintained trails of the Biathlon venue. The event featured a mix of participants from local and regional clubs, including Hollyburn Cross-Country Ski Club, Whistler Nordic Ski Club, Sea to Sky Nordic Ski Club, Nordic Racers, Spud Valley Nordic Ski Club, and Tetrahedron – Dakota Ridge Nordics, who made their first appearance at the event.
Among the youngest competitors was 3-year-old Ingrid McMurtry, while the oldest participant was 73-year-old para-athlete Bill Moore, showcasing the inclusivity and broad appeal of the sport. The Teck Coast Cup is known for its diverse range of participants, and this year’s race was no exception, featuring athletes of all abilities, from the youngest skiers racing a 100 m course to seasoned masters competing in a 9 km race.
“We are thrilled with the turnout and the competitive spirit shown by athletes of all ages,” said Chelsea Little, Chief of Competition. “It’s inspiring to see such a broad spectrum of athletes, from young children just starting to elite competitors, all coming together to enjoy cross-country skiing.”
