Coaching Expectations
Hollyburn Cross Country Ski Club is committed to training and supporting our club coaches so that we can provide our adult and child members with the best possible learning environment.
The club will:
- Provide training sessions to help coaches to improve both skiing and coaching skills.
- Build opportunities through training sessions for coaches to network and share ideas and strategies with each other (TEAM = Together Everyone Achieves More).
- Fully reimburse coaches for all successfully completed NCCP coaching courses.
- Provide support materials with regard to teaching progressions, games, and award level requirements.
- Attempt to pair new coaches with experienced coaches that have coached previously with the club for at least one season.
- Provide support for club coaches through:
- experienced support coaches present during each session to answer questions and provide strategies and feedback
- club coaching library
- website information and links
Hollyburn Cross Country Ski Club expects club coaches will:
- Sign and adhere to the Cross Country B.C. Coaching Code of Conduct.
- Complete a criminal record check.
- Attend the required training and preparation sessions.
- Commit to coaching for all sessions of the group (including Coast Cups and the P’ayak) that you have been assigned to. In case of unavoidable absence, the coach should help the session coordinator find a replacement. Note, coaches do not coach their own children but will be assigned to a group that takes place during the same session that their child skis.
- Plan and conduct fun, safe and developmentally appropriate skiing sessions.
- Follow all of the Cypress Mountain rules, including showing your ski pass as you enter the trails, keeping your groups from blocking the trails and ensuring that your group skis in a safe manner (i.e. skis under control and slows down in the base area).
- Work within the program framework set out by the club (for example, with the exception of the racing program, Adventurers and special events, all groups will ski at Cypress Mountain).
- Use Cross Country B.C. and club criteria to evaluate skill levels and award stickers to children being coached (and report those awards back to the session coordinator).
- Continue to develop own skiing and coaching skills.
